Treasure & Relish

Early Penguin Books

Following the increasing interest in early paperbacks and especially those published by Penguin, we’ve recently added a new sub-category for these often collectable titles. Our prices range from £2.50 for Dilys Powell’s autobiographical gem An Affair of the Heart that reacquaints her readers with her love for Greece, to £20.00 for a first Penguin edition of Wuthering Heights. In between these works we have authors and titles that are still popular today, like The Great Gatsby; as well as books that have surprisingly now gone out of print such as David Karp’s dystopian vision of the future; One, originally published in 1953, that can be read alongside and compared with Brave New World and 1984 (coincidentally two other titles we currently have in stock). Other titles of special interest at the moment are a collectable Services Edition of Homer’s The Odyssey, published in 1945, and Hiroshima by John Hersey published in November 1946. Both paperbacks are in very good condition.

So, if you love the feel, delight in the vintage typographic or illustrated jackets from the 30s, 40s, 50s & 60s... then why not start reading and collecting from the widest range of subjects and titles ever published in paperback: Orange for fiction, Blue for Biography, Green for Crime to name but three...
