An early biography of Lincoln, first published in 1916 and still well regarded a hundred years later. Godfrey Benson, an English scholar who was born the year before Lincoln was assassinated, and made a baron in 1911, writes convicingly of Lincoln's statesmanship, as well as offering a deeper view of the man, his beliefs and personality.
