"The book is about the tribes that live in the Marshes of Iraq, around the junction of the Tigris and Euphrates. This area covering some 6,000 square miles, is now closed to travellers and no previous explorer has had any experience of it compared to the author's. Soon these marshes will probably be drained and a way of life which has lasted for thousands of years will disappear. Wilfred Thesiger lived among these people for eight years, and there is hardly a village, however small, in the Central Marshes that he has not visited."
Overall Condition: Good++
