This illustration was published in the same month that the First World War began and depicts a lady of importance standing outside at the top of a terrace with clouds behind her. She is wearing an elegant dress overlaid with a diaphanous fabric. With hands on her heart, her pose is of longing, the thin filmy fabric spiralling around her speaks of restraint and of being caged.
This is a collectable pochoir print taken from the French fashion periodical La Gazette du Bon Ton, a publication that set the tone for sophisticated style and taste over the art deco era. The illustrations were of the latest creations from the leading Paris couture houses and were often carried out by the top art deco artists of the time. The Gazette was published between 1912 & 1925 (although not during the 1st World War) with the pages printed in a loose format (not bound) and enclosed within a stiff cover. These original pages are often sought after by collectors and amateurs alike and when framed often make superb pictures; historical, decorative & interesting.
