Published in 1833 by Jones & Co, Temple of the Muses, (Late Lackington's), Finsbury Square, London. 4to (approx 11" H x 8.5" W). 96pp; with 42 steel engraved plates without tissue guards. Half bound, leather with blue marbled boards.
Boards & spine rubbed. Owner’s inscription dated 1864 on front free endpaper. Foxing and browning throughout most of the book, though appearing mainly on the margins surrounding the plates, which are presented on a different paper to the text. Pages are a bit grubby in places with some marking to pages by fingerprints etc.
The book comprises of plates from Hogarth’s moralising serials along with individual portraits & satires, with a commentary to each plate. Included in this volume: The Rakes Progress, Gate of Calais, Taste in High Life, The Harlot's Progress, A Midnight Modern Conversation, Daniel Lock Esq, The Enraged Musician, Masquerades & Operas - Burlington Gate, Times of the Day, Sigismonda, Martin Folkes Esq, The Cockpit; Thomas Coram, The Country Inn Yard, Industry & Idleness and various others.
