William Jobling was a striking miner, hanged in 1832 for the murder of Nicholas Fairles, colliery owner and magistrate. After the hanging Jobling's body was removed from the scaffold, covered in pitch, carried through the streets in a cart to be displayed on a gibbet at tidal mudflats of Jarrow Slake. He was one of the last people to be gibbetted in England.

Published by Bede Gallery, Jarrow, County Durham, 1972. 1st edition. Number 0005 of a numbered edition, published to conincide with The Jobling Exhibition of winter 1972-73 held at the Bede Gallery. Paperback. 21cm H x 16cm W. 24pp. Story and poems by Tom Kelly (Assistant Director of the Bede Gallery). Illustrated throughout in b/w by Vincent Rea (Director of the Bede Gallery) in a variety of methods and styles. Printed in South Shields.

Book condition: Used – Very Good. Outer has small loss to the cover surface. Inside is clean and bright; All pages present; No inscriptions.
