Published 1857, Law Times Office, London. Approx size: 8vo. 19.5cm H x 11.5cm W (7 ¾” x 4 ½”). Vii, 103pp + Index. Blind stamped & stiffened brown boards with a title label pasted on the front. Owner’s name neatly inscribed in ink on the front endpaper – ‘B. C. Pullan, 1860’. Initialled crest stamped on the opposite pastedown. At the end of the book are three pages of inked notes in a neat hand (dated 23rd July 1860) that match the text annotations and the handwritten owner’s name.
Condition: Outer is worn, rubbing and chipping to the corners, title label discoloured, Evidence of a split at the top of the front joint; Page edges are dust stained. Inside is very good, minimal age toning. Page 99-102 (Appendix) separated, creased and discoloured. All other pages appear clean, bright and tight. Hinges good and firm.
An exceptionally rare legal book, especially notable for its previous owner’s elegant handwritten notes and annotations, as well as a charming small portrait sketch at the front which was perhaps created during a particularly dull time in court. No other copies listed for sale at the time of cataloguing. Very scarce.
